Carnival Parade in Stras

Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent.  Carnival normally involves a public parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People usually dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which the whole city comes out to watch.  Strasbourg holds a pretty big carnival celebration and some of my friends and I were there to see it all.

Halloween isn't that big of a deal here, but the kids really get dressed up for Carnival where they can get candy and throw lots of confetti at those in the parade.

The floats in these parades are pretty incredible.  For the most part, they blow our parades out of the water.

Also, I can't leave out the wild costumes worn by those in the parades.
